Onboard Android
devices the right way

Clear ownership models and disclosed management profiles — required for lawful MDM.

Enrollment is where MDM succeeds or fails. BTMOB expects you to choose an ownership model first, communicate it to users, then apply the matching Android Enterprise path on Android 10–17 devices.

  • COBO (corporate owned, business only) — fully managed device owner mode; strongest policy surface.
  • COPE (corporate owned, personally enabled) — work profile or equivalent separation so personal apps stay distinct where the OS allows.
  • BYOD — user enrolls a work profile with notice/consent; corporate wipe removes work data, not the whole personal phone (platform permitting).
  • Dedicated / kiosk — lock task for single-purpose tablets and handhelds.

Suggested rollout

1) Create device groups and baseline policies. 2) Pilot 10–20 devices across your top OEMs on Android 10–17. 3) Validate app installs and wipe. 4) Expand with zero-touch or QR at scale. 5) Train helpdesk on the overview console and remote lock/wipe runbooks.

User communication

Always tell employees that the device or work profile is managed. Hidden management is not a BTMOB use case and may violate law and store policies. Our legal page states acceptable use in plain language.
